Taya MacDonald
Hailing from Mabou Harbour, Cape Breton, Taya MacDonald is a young multi-instrumentalist with a passion for traditional Cape Breton music. Her love of the music comes honestly enough – the Harbour MacDonalds have long been known for their own love of the music and their snappy stepdancing. Taya attends high school at Dalbrae Academy in Mabou and is in Grade 10. At age five, she showed a keen interest in traditional music. Through school music class, private lessons, participation in community ceilidhs and great family encouragement, Taya has learned to put her hand to the fiddle, piano, guitar, mandolin and accordion. This year, she has taken part in Na Gaisgich Öga – The Young Heros Gaelic Mentorship Program as well as Féis Cape Breton’s Musical Mentorship, where she continues to build her repetoire and skill. Taya is delighted to be taking her talents to the stage as part of KitchenFest! this year.
